I have heard people that would rather raise the sales tax than raise the income tax on the rich. Once again, it baffles me.</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="verdana, arial">Not true. with the 30% of income they will save from income tax they will be able to afford the sales tax, not to mention that they will be rebated a certain amount of money that has been determined everyone spends on neccesities of life. so in this case the only things that will be sales taxed is things you DON'T NEED. So if you don't have money, don't buy shit you don't need and you'll be fine. If you are below the poverty line you are exempt from the tax completely. Its fair for both rich and poor. if you're poor watch your fucking wallet and you're good. if you're rich, at least you decide where your tax dollars go.

They're already well beyond what's needed to live comfortably. Take a guy like Gates for example. What can he do with all that money that doesn't end up yielding more money(i.e. not an investment)? And no, the government might not do the greatest job at road repair and upkeep, but for logistics reasons, they are the only ones that can do it.
